An investigation into the crash of a Wisconsin Air National Guard jet in the Upper Peninsula has begun.
The F-16 from the 115th Fighter Wing in Madison was on a training flight when it crashed in the Hiawatha National Forest Tuesday night. The pilot was killed.
Wing Commander Colonel Bart Van Roo says the assistance of local and state agencies in the search was invaluable.
“In particular, the Michigan State Police, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, the Michigan National Guard, and National Guard forces from Minnesota, Indiana and Iowa,” said Van Roo.
The pilot has not been identified.
The Air Force investigation of the incident could take a year or more.
