The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is extending a partial shutdown of schools and restaurants by 12 days to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

High schools and colleges will continue with online-only instruction and restaurants are not allowed to have indoor dining.
Speaking at a news conference this afternoon on Monday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer explains the reason behind the orders.

“The epidemic order in place now is aimed at one limiting indoor gatherings to gatherings that have people of different households and gatherings where people come together without wearing masks.”

Whitmer says currently 79% of hospital beds in the state are occupied.  She says health officials are expecting an increase in cases in the coming days due to family visits and travel during the Thanksgiving holiday.
