Whitmer pushes for stimilus for people and businesses in need

As thousands across Michigan struggle with Covid-19 infections, Governor Gretchen Whitmer is calling on the state’s GOP controlled legislature to pass 100-million dollars in stimulus money.

Whitmer says the state is facing a billion dollar budget shortfall next year, so it’s important to focus on the areas of greatest concern.

“We got to make some hard choices right now prioritizing our families or frontline and small businesses, while avoiding spending too much on non-critical projects,” said Whitmer.

Whitmer says a permanent extension of unemployment benefits is also needed, in both duration and amount. Whitmer says the state is the worst in the Great Lakes region in providing jobless benefits, and in the bottom third in the country.

A Democratic proposal would add 6 weeks of coverage and up to 180-dollars per week to unemployment benefits.
