Even as the coronavirus continues its surge statewide, the Petoskey downtown is hopeful this weekend will remain a good one for local stores.
Officials with the Petoskey downtown say through the summer and fall they maintained good sales at local stores.
Becky Goodman, downtown director for the City of Petoskey said she’s hopeful they can maintain that momentum through the holiday season.
“I know that the visitor’s bureau has said that traffic will be down this weekend but we have a good sense that people are here in their second homes, they are here in Air BnBs,” she said. “They are in the area. I’m sure there will be people here for the weekend.”
Goodman said local stores need continued support.
“Pockets are not as deep for a small retailer as they are for a corporate retailer,” she said. “If we’re going to be here in the future, and we fully intend to be, we need the support in the meantime.”
Goodman said they are asking visitors to “be kind” while in the downtown area and to wear a mask.
