There have been several holidays so far this year that have been observed while in a pandemic but with cases surging and many traditions at stake, what is the best advice for Thanksgiving?

EMU professor and epidemiologist Dr Beverly Mihelko says infection control and infection prevention has been her life’s work and she says she struggles seeing so many people discounting the medical knowledge we have now about COVID-19.

She says it is Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s advice as well as top public health officials around the country to celebrate Thanksgiving with people already in your household. She says there’s a big risk bringing older or health compromised family members inside your home while the rate of virus cases continue to increase.

"So what is more important sharing this one holiday for one year or maybe not seeing them “again ever,” said Mihelko.

She suggests for those who do gather, that one masked person serve all the food and to try and make any get together as brief as possible.
