The state is launching a program to help people disproportionately impacted by marijuana prohibition get into the weed industry, applications for the program are now open.

The Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency’s Social Equity Program is a stipulation of the law that legalized the drug in the state in 2018.

The agency identified more than 180 communities in the state disproportionately impacted by marijuana prohibition and enforcement.

That includes cities like Detroit, Flint, and Lansing.

Under the program eligible individuals are provided financial assistance and resources to help their business grow.

The MRA is holding an online outreach session the first week of December for interested individuals.
