Governor Gretchen Whitmer is painting a bleak picture as coronavirus infections are again surging in the state.

Speaking at a news conference this afternoon (THU), Whitmer says the nationwide daily death toll is staggering.

“Try to imagine 10 737 airplanes crashing to the ground every single day," said Whitmer. "That's what we're facing a 911 every three days. No one is safe from this virus.”

The state health department says - in the past ten days - hospitalizations in Michigan for COVID-positive patients has skyrocketed by 65-percent, with some facilities in West and Northern Michigan, at or near capacity.
