Whitmer, lawmakers announce legislation related to military families

Governor Gretchen Whitmer and state lawmakers from both sides of the aisle announced legislation today [TUES] they say would support military families by reducing barriers to professional licensing.

Whitmer says the legislation would help service members and their dependents find good jobs in Michigan by allowing reciprocal licensing.

"It will mean that veterans and service members and family members that have a professional license in a different state can become licensed here in Michigan without having to jump through a bunch of hoops," said Whitmer.

The bills would also expand eligibility for certain license fee waivers.

Whitmer says the bills would help Michigan attract and retain talent by encouraging military families to make Michigan their permanent home.

She says that would be good for military families and for Michigan's businesses and economy.
