Consumer self-care product maker, Perrigo, is moving its North American Corporate Headquarters to Grand Rapids.

Perrigo is building a new North American Headquarters at 430 Monroe Avenue NW - the site of Michigan State University’s Grand Rapids Innovation Park. The expansion within the city’s “Medical Mile” places it alongside a network of academic, research and clinical experts.

Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, Perrigo’s annual sales are expected to top $5 billion this year. It’s investing $44.7 million in the construction of its new North American Headquarters. When it opens, it’ll house its U.S.-based executive team and create 170 high-paying jobs. It’s manufacturing facilities in Allegan and Ottawa Counties currently employ more than 4,000 workers.

Perrigo was also considering sites in suburban Chicago and Southeast Florida.

A global leader in self-care products and over-the-counter health and wellness solutions, it worked with West Michigan’s economic development organization, The Right Place. Here’s President and CEO Birgit Klohs, “It says that we can compete. That in fact, Grand Rapids can compete against some of the larger cities in this country and I think that makes us very proud.”

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is offering a $2 million Business Development Program performance-based grant and the city of Grand Rapids is supporting the project with parking and a property tax abatement of $1.5 million.
