The two campaigns for U.S. Senate in Michigan are on track to spend more than any other previous statewide race.

The Michigan Campaign Finance Network keeps track of spending on races. Simon D. Schuster is the Executive Director. He says one hundred million dollars could be spent on the U.S. Senate race between Republican John James and Democrat Gary Peters.

“This is an increase that is far beyond what we’ve seen in previous elections. In 2014, the senate race was about 58 million dollars and in 2018, it was a little more than 40.”

Schuster says while the campaigns themselves have raised and spent a lot of money, a lot more is coming from super PACs, national committees, and dark money groups.
