Nessel sues farm for alleged violations

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is suing a West Michigan farm for allegedly violating its environmental permits.

Slater Farms is a concentrated animal feeding operation. That means it raises huge numbers of livestock—and produces huge amounts of animal waste.

Nessel says Slater Farms has improperly spread millions of gallons of liquid waste across fields in Newaygo and Muskegon counties.

She says that threatens nearby waterways with serious environmental and public health harms.

Nessel is suing on behalf of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy in order to get Slater Farms to comply with a prior state consent order. Slater Farms could not immediately be reached for comment.
