The Democratic and Republican nominees for Michigan’s 8th congressional district seat will meet in a series of three debates before the November general election.
Democratic incumbent Elissa Slotkin is seeking her second term. She’s a former CIA analyst and assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs. Republican Paul Junge is a former deputy district attorney and TV news anchor. He was also a Trump administration advisor for U-S Citizenship and Immigration Services.
The district voted Republican in the last two presidential elections and gave Donald Trump a more than six-point margin in 2016. Slotkin’s 2018 victory gave the 8th its first blue seat in Congress in 17 years.
Slotkin and Junge will hold three debates. The first will be September 21 on WLNS-TV in Lansing. The next is September 27 on WDIV-TV in Detroit and the final debate will be broadcast on WHMI radio in Howell on October 6.
