Whitmer meets with top COVID-19 advisors

Governor Gretchen Whitmer met with the White House’s coronavirus coordinator today (WED.) The two discussed recent changes to testing made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Governor Whitmer is concerned that the CDC is discouraging asymptomatic testing among people who may have come into contact with people infected with COVID-19.

Infectious disease expert Deborah Birx says the guideline should be clarified because that type of testing can stop future outbreaks.

“We know that particularly in young people most of them either don’t report symptoms or the case is so mild that they don’t realize they have COVID," said Birx. "They need to know because they need to know not to pass the virus on to others.”

Birx says everyone should wear a mask in public and supports state mandates to do so. Governor Gretchen Whitmer says  President Trump should extend that requirement nationally.
