Proud Boys in Antrim County

Members of a far-right group volunteered at an event in northern Michigan last week that hosted Michigan U-S Senate candidate John James.

Members of the neo-fascist group Proud Boys provided security and served food at a political event in Central Lake last Saturday.

The event put on by the Antrim County Conservative Union featured John James who gave a speech and briefly spoke with people.

In the crowd of about 200, six to seven Proud Boys were seen throughout the event wearing the group’s signature black polos with yellow trim.

An organizer says they volunteered to provide security in case there were any protesters at the event.

The Proud Boys are classified by the FBI as having ties to white nationalism and are known for starting violence at political protests.

John James’ campaign spokesperson says the candidate did not know any hate groups were in attendance and “opposes hate in all forms that it may take.”
