Former United Auto Workers President Dennis Williams is facing charges of embezzlement.

Williams is the latest in a series of UAW officials snared in a federal investigation of corruption within the union.

Prosecutors accuse Williams of conspiring with a half-dozen other senior UAW officials to embezzle about one-and-a-half million dollars from the union.

The money allegedly paid for everything from luxury housing in California to expensive dinners and golf outings.

The information comes in a legal filing that indicates Williams who served as UAW president from 2014 until 2018 will likely plead guilty to the charge.

His successor at the union former President Gary Jones was previously charged with crimes in connection to the investigation and is cooperating with the federal government.

For its part the UAW says in a statement the union is strengthening its financial and ethical policies and controls.
