Rashida Tlaib wins key victory in Michigan Primary

Outspoken Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has won a decisive victory in the state’s Democratic primary.

The first Palestinian-American woman ever elected to Congress defeated her primary opponent by a wide margin.

Two years ago Tlaib barely won the chance to represent her district one of the poorest in the nation.

This time she earned twice as many votes as her more established rival Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones.

Tlaib’s gained a national reputation by battling with President Trump and becoming a member of the so-called “Squad” of first-term progressive women of color in the House.

In a statement Tlaib notes that she was considered perhaps the most vulnerable member of the Squad but says her victory shows – quote – “the Squad is here to stay and it’s only getting bigger.”

Historically whoever wins the Democratic primary in the Detroit-based district wins the general election as well.
