Gary Peters currently polling ahead of John James

In a race to keep his U.S. Senate seat, incumbent Democrat Gary Peters is polling ahead. But, his Republican opponent, John James, has outraised him four times.

In the era of the coronavirus, hitting the trail and talking to voters is severely limited. Senator Gary Peters says for him campaigning has taken a back seat while he navigates the COVID-19 crisis.

“But in the meantime, I'm going to keep doing my job here and be as effective as I can to make sure small businesses survive, that our families get the resources that they need—putting food on the table and a roof over their head—and to make sure our health care providers have the resources they need,” said Peters.

Re-capturing Senator Peters’ seat is crucial for Senate Democrats who are vying to reclaim control of the upper chamber of congress. Voters will weigh in on the race for the first time on Tuesday, in the August primary.
