A recent rise in Covid-19 infections has state officials concerned about being able to start school on-time.

Speaking at a news conference this afternoon (WED) Governor Gretchen Whitmer says most schools are set to open up on September 8th and a lot can happen in that time.

“55 days after we discussed our first cases of COVID-19 in Michigan, we went from two cases to 40,000….in that 55 days. More than 4000 people died in that 55 days," said Whitmer

Whitmer is urging everyone to wear a mask. An executive order requiring mask usage when in an indoor public space – and crowded outdoor spaces - went into effect earlier this week.

Today (WED) the state health department announced 891 new cases of Covid-19 and four more deaths.
