Elissa Slotkin launches bid for re-election

One of the most expensive congressional campaigns Michigan has ever seen, got off to a quiet re-start today (Friday) when U.S. Representative Elissa Slotkin launched her bid for re-election. As Abigail Censky  reports the coronavirus will drastically change the run up to this year’s elections.

Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin’s campaign launch in Ingham County Friday was small. Her words echoed through the United Auto Workers hall without supporters.

Less than a month out from the state’s August primary, this is the new reality of campaigning during the pandemic.

Slotkin says she and her team are trying to rethink ways to connect with voters.

“For us, that human connection, that personal connection of neighbor speaking to neighbor is critical," said Slotkin. "That is how I won.  We had the largest field campaign in the Midwest. We knocked 200,000 doors last cycle.”

Slotkin says her campaign is considering out of the box things like advertising on pizza boxes and at gas station pumps. She will face whoever wins a four-way Republican primary in August.
