Mr. Tiger has died. The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Al Kaline – who for a generation of Tigers fans was the pre-eminent right fielder -- died today at the age of 85.  Kaline won a batting title when he was just 20 years old…and from there he embarked on a hall of fame career…finishing with over 3000 hits and 399 home runs.

Kaline maintained his love affair with the city and people of Detroit. Along with George Kell, Kaline was the TV voice of the team for many years and served as the Tigers unofficial ambassador to all things baseball.

A cause of death was not immediately available.
