Detroit may use alternative spaces to treat coronavirus in its homeless population.

Mayor Mike Duggan says the city is weighing its options.

“In some cases its hotels, in some cases its dorms, in some cases its major open areas where you can potentially use cots.”

Duggan says the city already has a site where homeless patients symptomatic for COVID-19 are being “segregated.”  He says he’s not worried about capacity.

“The bigger question is going to be where’s the staff that’s going to be able to take care of these folks.”

Duggan says the biggest need for health care workers right now is access to test kits…protective equipment like N-95 respirator masks…and eventually…ventilators.
