The coronavirus outbreak has made hand-sanitizers in short supply.
One West Michigan distillery is now producing and donating it to local healthcare providers.
Holland-based Coppercraft Distillery is adding to its business portfolio producing 10,000 gallons of alcohol-based hand sanitizer its donating to Holland Hospital and other area healthcare providers.
“The World Health Organization has come out with some guidelines along with CDC and there’s basically two different formulations. We’re going with formulation #1 which is ethanol-based reaching 96% ethanol and you combine that with hydrogen peroxide, a little bit of glycerol and some distilled water.”

“Our entire organization looked around and said, ‘What can we do? What do we have?’ We have alcohol and that’s what’s in need right now in a lot of different ways.”
Answering the call during a national emergency is reminiscent of Michigan’s can-do spirit. Its industries rallied during World War II when Detroit automakers converted assembly lines accommodating the construction of tanks and bombers.
“It brings us together and we link arms and we go, ‘Okay. What skills do you have? What skills do we have? What are our resources? And we pitch in and do it. And I think nothing says Michigan more than that.
Meeting the need for both hand sanitizer and premium spirits.
