Social Security offices in Michigan will be closed for in-person services in response to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a press release from the Social Security Administration.
As of Tuesday, March 17, people can access services online as well as through the phone. Online services include applying for retirement, disability and Medicare benefits. If you can’t find the information you need online, you can use an office locator on the website to contact a local office.
Social Security employees will be calling people who had an in-person appointment scheduled to talk about alternative methods, such as offering telephonic hearings. The phone calls may come from a private number. To avoid scams, it’s important to remember that social security employees will never make threats or ask for a payment over the phone.
At this time, the administration has not announced when the offices will re-open.
