A Huron County recycling center could close its doors this spring. Officials said a drop in prices is making it difficult for the business to stay afloat. The closure will leave more than a dozen people with barriers to employment once again looking for a job.

Thumb Industries in Bad Axe is a nonprofit that helps people with disabilities develop job skills. Due to changes in some of its grant funding, and a drop in prices for recycled materials, the center may have to close its doors.

Rhonda Wisenbaugh, the executive director of the nonprofit, said the group is looking for funding opportunities to keep the center open instead of relying on recycling revenue.

"Unfortunately the price of commodities that we get just aren’t enough to cover the costs.”

Wisenbaugh saidys she is working with the county commissioners to try to find a way to continue recycling services. She said if they can’t find a solution, around fifteen people will need to find new jobs.
