Detroit police officials say they’ve uncovered widespread criminal misconduct in the department’s narcotics unit.

The allegations of corruption stretch back more than a decade.

In August, Detroit police raided their own narcotics unit.

Police Chief James Craig says they found evidence that officers stole money from drug dealers, falsified search warrants, and used blank vouchers to pocket funds that were meant to pay informants.

Craig says the handful of officers involved allegedly targeted victims they thought would remain quiet.

CRAIG: ”Someone who’s engaged in drug trafficking and they’re robbed by police…they are not gonna come forward and make a complaint. Cost of doing business.”

Craig says officers with five years or more in the narcotics section have been reassigned, and a telephone tip line is available for anyone who knows more about the crimes.
