A mining company says it’s ending its regional exploration program in the U.P. soon.
Eagle Mine has been operating in Marquette County since 2014. It has been exploring Houghton and Baraga counties for minerals over the past two years, but has decided to end that project. Eagle Mine spokesman Matt Johnson says it comes down to the budget… which had to be evaluated against finding minable bodies of ore.
“We’ve decided to conclude that program just based on really the chance of, the chance of success.” :07
Eagle continues to explore an ore body found east of the current mine. Operations are expected to begin by the end of the year.
