Community groups in Alpena are coming together to host a free dinner to build connections.

They’re calling it  ‘The Longest Table’. Community members will be assigned seats by event organizers and given the opportunity to have a bite to eat, and a conversation with other people from Alpena.

Anne Gentry is the Executive Director of the Alpena Downtown Development Authority. She said the dinner isn’t just a chance for small talk.

“We wanted to host this event to give people an opportunity to sit together and enjoy a meal, and really talk about important issues, what they see in our community, and what they’re passionate about.”

Gentry said the free dinner is intended to break down walls between community members.

The Longest Table will be held on Sunday, August 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. You can RSVP by emailing the Alpena Downtown Development Authority at downtownalpenami@gmail.com or by calling (989)-356-6422.
