Lights, camera, action! The Traverse City Film Fest begins tonight.

This is the fifteenth year of the festival, billed as one of the largest in the Midwest.

Katie Zwick is the Print Traffic Coordinator with the festival. She said this year’s film festival theme is ‘Cinema Saves the World’.

“We’ve got a lot of films that are pertinent to the upcoming 2020 election. I think the vision that Michael Moore and the directors of the festival have is a time that could not be more crucial for our nation. And cinema is a really powerful tool to shape peoples’ views and better the nation...one movie at a time.

Zwick said the festival relies on hundreds of volunteers to manage a predicted crowd of some 25,000 people.

This year’s special celebrity guest is Lily Tomlin, currently the star of Netflix hit Grace and Frankie. She will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from film fest founder and president Michael Moore.
