The Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan is starting a new program to help children who have been abused and sexually assaulted.

Child Advocacy Centers create a kid-friendly environment for children to share their story with a forensic interviewer.

Executive Director, Gail Kloss, said the new center is a better option for kids because it is a friendly environment and kids only have to share their story once.

“The idea is you bring everybody that has an interest in that case, so law enforcement, prosecuting attorney, child protective services, they are in one area while the forensic interviewer is in another room interviewing that child.”

Kloss said the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan has one Child Advocacy Center in Emmet County. She said they plan to implement programs in Charlevoix, Cheboygan, and Otsego County in the future.
