Secretary of State expands appointment option to all branches

Michigan Department of State

The Michigan Department of State is expanding an appointment option to all Secretary of State branches by the end of July. Officials said this change will help get people out “lickety-split”.

Right now, less than half of the Secretary of State offices in the Michigan offer the appointment option. The Department of State is looking to offer appointment options at all offices this summer.

Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, said branch offices will be able to serve people more effectively and efficiently.

“We can’t predict how many people will come into a branch offices in a day or what services they’ll need. But if we are able to know that ahead of time through appointments and through citizens making appointments we will be better able to prepare and staff those offices for the day.”

Secretary Benson said the appointment option will be phased in across the state, with the goal of having all offices on board by the end of July.
