Plane located in Lake Michigan

On May 12th a plane with two people was lost off the coast of Frankfort. In a written release the Michigan State Police said that the plane had been found after nearly two weeks.

“The Michigan State Police Marine Services Team (MSP/MST) located a structure shaped like an aircraft at about 5:15 PM yesterday afternoon using an AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) with sonar.”

The plane was found 4.5 miles off of the coast in a depth of 515 feet, and shortly after being found they were able to confirm that the plane was the missing plane using the video cameras on the AUV.

Looking into the interior of the plane they were unable to locate the two people who had been on board, Emanuel Manos and Randal Dippold. State police and The Benzie County Sheriff’s department are continuing their joint investigation and search for the two missing pilot and passenger.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Benzie County Sheriff’s Office at 231-882-4484.
