DTE Energy is one of 60 “Fortune 500” companies in the U-S that did not pay federal income taxes last year.
DTE provides electricity and natural gas to millions of customers in Michigan.
The company could not make a spokesperson available for comment but confirmed in an email that they did not pay any federal taxes in 20-18.
DTE says it followed current federal tax laws, claiming their investments as deductions.
It says those savings have been passed on to customers, reducing their bills by more than 20 million dollars per year.
The company says it paid more than 300 million in state and local taxes and expects to pay higher federal income taxes in the future.
General Motors, Whirlpool Corporation and Penske Automotive Group are three other Michigan companies that did not pay federal taxes last year.
