Sleeping Bear Dunes is hosting free star parties throughout the summer. Officials said coming out to see the stars could improve your health.

Sleeping Bear Dunes is partnering with the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society to help give people a better look at the night sky.

The Star Parties are an opportunity to learn but also a way you can help your body stay healthy.

Sleeping Bear Dune’s Night Sky Interpreter and Park Ranger, Marie Scott, said visiting the star parties could help your sleep schedule.

“If we have too much light it affects our sleep patterns. When we have a totally dark sky or a sky that is dark enough to see the stars our sleep patterns are re-established and we become healthier people.”

Scott said star parties throughout the summer will allow people to see different parts of the night sky including other planets, a meteor shower, and the Milky Way. She said the view is unlike any other.

“When you see it here at the park… it is just absolutely spectacular. Not only that, but you can see many constellations that you might not see in an urban area or an overlit area you can see here.”

The star party schedule can be found here.
