Four months after taking office Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer painted a not so pretty picture of Michigan’s infrastructure and education system while speaking to a group of Ann Arbor area business and community leaders on the Eastern Michigan University campus.
Saying Michigan roads are the worst in the country and we are headed for tragedy due to what’s happening to the state’s education system, Governor Whitmer again pushed for her gas tax raising proposal to fix the state’s roads. The governor telling several hundred people gathered on the Eastern Michigan University campus “we all have a stake in getting this done”.
"Whether you’re paying to fix the rims on your car, or you’re paying to hire a tutor because your child is not getting enough attention because they’re packed into a classroom crammed full of students or you can’t drink the water coming out of your tap, we are all paying for a lack of investment in fundamentals and that’s what I want to get done"
The governor adding that everyone understands the magnitude of the problem and that “big and bold” solutions are what’s needed to turn the state around.
