The East Jordan city commision could vote to ban marijuana businesses within city limits at a commision meeting Tuesday.

Similar ordinances are being considered by communities across the state. They say they’re concerned about the impact of marijuana businesses.

Tom Cannon is the East Jordan city administrator. He said the commission may pass the ban in order to take a wait and see approach to the new marijuana law.

“As far as the dispensaries and the downtown that’s where they are cautious is that something we want as a usage right away or would we rather watch and make sure that we do it right?”

Cannon said the commission will also consider a ban on public use of marijuana.

“The ballot did already not allow it in public but we felt that we needed to make it understood because we have rented facilities and stuff that we wanted at least to put that language in there.”

Cannon said the city planning commission has already made a recommendation to vote the ordinance through.

He said the soonest a ban could be approved would be at the next commission meeting on the 18th.
