Both candidates encouraged others to vote after they cast their ballots.

Republican Bill Schuette was in Midland.

“The more people that participate in democracy, the stronger our country, the stronger our state is. So I’d encourage people to vote.”

And Democrat Gretchen Whitmer was in Lansing,

“I'm just ganna stay focused on solving problems and I hope everyone gets out and votes today.”

The day is far from over for either candidate. Both plan to do a final Get Out the Vote surge, making stops around the state to encourage people to get to the polls before they close at 8pm.

Candidates for the Libertarian, U-S Taxpayers, Green, and Natural Law party are also on the ballot.
