Northern Michigan iron business celebrating 40 years in business

This year marks the 40th anniversary of a northern Michigan business that specializes in unique … and large… metal work.

Moran Iron Works is one of the largest employers in Presque Isle County. Its headquarters are in the small community of Onaway. The other shops are located in Cheboygan and Rogers City.

Tom Moran is President and CEO of Moran Iron Works. He said he started the business in his teens… knowing nothing about the industry. Since then his knowledge… and the business has grown.

“We build everything from greenhouse gas reduction equipment, to process equipment for foundries and steel mills, and something as varied as a 250 passenger high speed ferry for the Straits of Mackinac.”

Moran said the company today doesn’t build any standard products

Moran Iron Works will celebrate its 40th anniversary on September 28th.
