Interim Michigan State University president, John Engler, will testify before a US Senate Subcommittee Tuesday. He’ll talk about the improvements the school has made in response to sexual assaults by MSU sports doctor Larry Nassar.

Engler started at MSU after former MSU president Lou Anna Simon resigned amid allegations that school officials knew about Nassar’s sexual assaults but did nothing. Nassar is in prison, likely for life, for abusing hundreds of gymnasts.

Engler will testify with officials from USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic committee.

Engler says MSU has made strides in changing its response to sexual assault.

“Well we certainly want them to know that it could never happen again at Michigan State.”

Critics of Engler’s performance say the school has made progress despite him. That’s in part because of things he has said – and apologized for – about survivors of Nassar.
