Flint Mayor Karen Weaver to speak with Elon Musk about assistance for Flint

City of Flint

Flint Mayor Karen Weaver is expected to speak with tech billionaire Elon Musk about possible aid he may provide to the city.

The conversation was started on Twitter after one user made comments about how there was no way Musk would be able to get clean water to Flint, Michigan.

In response, Musk tweeted out quote “Please consider this a commitment that I will fund fixing the water in any house in Flint that has water contamination above FDA levels. No kidding.”

Mayor Karen Weaver said she's already spoken with representatives for Musk about a possible conversation about what kind of assistance the city could use.

“We have a lot of things that we are going to talk about so I was glad to hear that they have been keeping track of what’s been going on in Flint and looking at the lead service line replacement and the other needs that we’ve outlined so many times about other things that were damaged as a result of the corrosive water.”

Weaver said representatives for Musk also talked about the possibility of economic development and workforce development opportunities.

She said this is just another instance of why it’s important to keep focus on the city’s issues.

“I don’t know if the Governor intended for this to happen but once he stopped the bottled water it brought a lot of focus back to what’s happening in Flint because everyone recognized that while we’ve made progress Flint has not been made whole yet.”

Weaver said there is no scheduled time yet for the interview.
