Central Michigan University

Central Michigan University’s Board of Trustees met Thursday to approve an operating budget for the coming year.

University officials say the final operating budget for 2018-2019 will be nearly 480 million dollars, a one percent decrease from the 2017-2018 budget

The board also voted to hold both in and out of state tuition for undergraduate students at its current rate.

Barrie Wilkes is the Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services. He says there will be no undergrad tuition increase this year for either in or out of state tuition.

“But, for budgetary purposes, we’re projecting a 5% decrease in student credit hours. That varies in some areas, we’re up online international.”

Wilkes said the board approved an increase in both graduate and doctoral credit hours.

Tricia Keith is on the Board of Trustees. She said the board is in the process of reviewing applicants for CMU’s new president.

“We spent a couple days interviewing eleven quality candidates together and have come forward on schedule to put forward an unranked list of five candidates for consideration. We’re very excited about that and we’re looking forward as a board to going through that and finding the best possible choice to be CMU’s 15th president.”

Keith said the board won’t be rushing to approve a president before the fall semester, she said they’ll take the time they need to select the right person for the job.

President George Ross, in his final Board meeting, said of his time at the university quote “it truly has been the most rewarding professional experience of my life.”
