Spending on campaign ads in Michigan has already surpassed four million dollars this year.

The Michigan Campaign Finance Network’s analysis only includes money spent on broadcast television. It doesn’t include cable or internet advertising. In an interview, Michigan Campaign Finance Network Director Craig Mauger says two groups are running ads in Michigan’s 6th Congressional district, one is praising Republican Congressman Fred Upton. Another is criticizing him:

Mauger says not much is known about either group running the issue ads. Upton is seeking his 17th term in the House. Four Democrats are on the ballot for the August primary, a fifth is suing after it was ruled that he was nine valid signatures short of the one-thousand needed to qualify.
