New research on Pre-Kindergarten education shows positive results for high quality programs that serve disadvantaged students.

It found that the typical program has no significant impact on fourth grade test scores. But research shows lasting benefits for high quality programs specifically for disadvantaged school districts.

Hershbein says that includes majority African-American districts.

The Upjohn Institute’s research shows that programs serving districts with a larger number of African-American students have produced greater improvements in math and reading scores.
