The Michigan National Guard and other Northern Michigan law enforcement agencies are conducting training exercises in Charlevoix County next week.
Exercise Northern Exposure is designed to train responders in three categories: civil disobedience, dignitary protection and aquatic response.
Chuck Vondra is the Charlevoix County Sheriff. He said the National Guard is helping to prepare law enforcement to handle worst-case scenarios.
“The whole drill was set up for the Sheriff's office to participate in drills of things that we couldn’t pull off on our own-we’d need a lot more people-and the National Guard is kind enough to help us with that.”
Exercise Northern Exposure has been conducted since 2015.
