Federal grants are being offered to provide services for Native Americans crime victims.

Some four and a half million dollars in funding will be awarded to Native American organizations in three year grants.

Bob Wheaton is the public information officer for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

“These are federal grant dollars that our department division of victims services provides for assistance for individuals who have been victims of crimes.”

Wheaton said the funding will go towards programs to provide support for victims of violent crimes.

He said Michigan has the largest number of federally funded Native American tribes east of the Mississippi.
