Over 1.5 million Michiganders are expected to travel over the Thanksgiving holiday.

That will be a 3.5 percent increase over last year, according to AAA. The auto club said this will be the eighth consecutive year that Thanksgiving travel increases.

All those travelers will be paying more this year, compared to last. Gas prices around Michigan are averaging $2.70 a gallon, an increase of $0.67 from 2016.

Travel experts said be prepared for heavy traffic on Michigan freeways and to leave yourself plenty of extra time to reach your destination.
