Schuette issues cease and desist to supposed fraudulent veterans charity

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette today (Thursday) issued a cease and desist order against the American Veterans Foundation of Sarasota, Florida.

The order was issued after the organization committed more than 200 violations of the Charitable Organizations and Solicitations Act.

Officials say the foundation raised nearly 4 million dollars between 2014 and 2016, and only one percent of that went toward support programs for veterans.

The AVF claimed it had helped hundreds of veterans in 2014, but the Attorney General says the group helped a single homeless veteran with a grant of just over 1,500 dollars.
