Ingham County’s top health official says response has been favorable to the CDC’s decision to allow the Pfizer vaccine for children between the ages of 12 and 15.
It’s been less than a week since that age group became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, so raw numbers are not yet available, but Health Officer Linda Vail says there have been lots of happy parents and youngsters getting their first dose of vaccine. She cites a clinic at East Lansing High School shortly after the new guidelines were announced.
“We had 150 appointments scheduled before that announcement was made, and we ended up vaccinating about 275 people, I think, last I knew.”
The situation is different from the early days of vaccinating people aged 65 and up, when demand was high and supply was low. Now, Vail says there’s plenty of vaccine available for all eligible age groups.
