Central Michigan University approved as COVID-19 vaccination site

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services approved Central Michigan University as a COVID-19 vaccination site, the dean of the university’s medical school said on Tuesday.

The dean, Dr. George Kikano, said that designation would allow CMU to receive vaccines from the state health department or other vendors and administer them to eligible people.

But, he said, limited vaccine supplies meant the university would not be receiving doses directly from the state. Instead, the Central Michigan District Health Department, which covers Isabella and five other counties, will provide CMU with vaccines.

University health staff “will administer vaccines to Isabella County residents on the health department’s priority list,” Kikano said.

Michigan’s list of people eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine expanded Monday, but local health departments said they were still working through people who were in the state’s highest-priority groups.

Vaccinations at the on-campus clinic will be by appointment only, the university said. CMU said it had received 600 doses of the Moderna vaccine that it planned to administer at three clinics at Finch Fieldhouse on Thursday, March 4; Monday, March 8; and Tuesday, March 9.
