McLaren Central Michigan has announced tighter visitor restrictions as COVID-19 cases surge statewide.

The hospital announced this week it will not allow patients to have visitors in the ER or ICU.

Patients in the Family Birth Center will be allowed, one support person.

In a release, the hospital said it would offer iPads for virtual visits.

Darrell Lentz is the president and CEO of McLaren Central Michigan.

“We’re seeing an increase in positive cases and social spread so we’re just advancing our opportunity to keep our patients, our visitors, and our employees safe,” he said.

Lentz said there is speculation that the hospital may end elective procedures but a decision has not yet been made.

“Currently there is speculation around that but to my knowledge, no decision has been made,” he said. “So we’re continuing to monitor day by day and act accordingly and be as safe as possible.”
