State application period for COVID workplace safety grants ends this week

Michigan officials are reminding businesses that the period to apply for eight and a half million dollars in workplace safety grants ends this week.

Small businesses can apply for up to $10,000 in state matching funds to be put towards things like sneeze guards, face coverings, and thermometers.

Sean Egan is the director of COVID-19 Workplace Safety for the state.

“There’s a matching component depending on the size of your business. If you’re under 50 employees you need to match 50% of whatever you receive. If you’re over 50 you need to match 100% of what you receive.”

Egan said the goal is to make Michigan workplaces safer.

“This is a grant program that is open to anyone but we’re certainly focusing on those businesses that are open to the public to try and ensure they can get open and stay open and buy the things they need to ensure their workplaces are safe.”

Egan said the state has received roughly 500 applications so far. The application period ends Friday
